Yorktown Cottages are strictly short-term rentals; however, the owner/operators offer 90-day rental options locally in Newport News near Christopher Newport University and James River Country Club.

Yorktown Cottages are whole-house rentals, without the property manager on site or next door. However, we are nearby, if needed. There are no shared spaces with other travelers. You may on occasion see the arborist, lawn maintenance or owners on site ensuring that the grounds are well-maintained for guests.

Maybe. We require the full 4 hours after a checkout to prepare the cottage to rent that evening. In general, we will not know until the day of check in/out if an early arrival or late departure is possible. We also have to consider the schedule of our housekeeping team.   

Yes, of course. Children of all ages may accompany adult travelers. Yorktown Cottages does not provide baby gear, so please either bring your own, or schedule equipment rentals for delivery to the cottages. Yorktown Cottages does not offer recommendations for specific rental companies.

Yes, linens are provided. This includes kitchen and bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, sheets, and other bedding. Beach towels are not included.  

Yorktown Cottages provides hand sanitizer, hand soap, and bar soap. Hair products are not provided as we have learned that most travelers bring with them their own preferred products. 

Yorktown Cottages provides the following for every stay: 3-4 rolls of toilet paper stocked in each bathroom, at least one roll of paper towels, coffee filters, liquid dish detergent, an individually wrapped (no scratch) sponge, and 4 kitchen trash bags. In the Garden Cottage we provide several dishwasher pods.  

No, the terms of our Yorktown Cottages business license to operate prevent the hosting of parties or events on site. 

Both cottages are clean, comfortable and convenient options. The Garden cottage is larger, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The Gallery Cottage is 1 bedroom / 1.5 baths, with 2 additional daybeds outside of the bedroom. The Garden Cottage allows up to 5 guests (the 5th on a rollaway bed, <=150lbs), while the Gallery Cottage allows up to 4 guests. The Garden Cottage also offers a gas fireplace, laundry room and dishwasher. The Gallery Cottage is still a favorite of many for its large dining space, open floor plan, and larger outdoor space. Each cottage has its own unique aesthetic qualities. 

Yes. We have the following sustainable measures in place:

• Yorktown Cottages curates our cottages with select antiques and other treasures, providing beautiful furnishings, rather than mass produced decor that would require the unnecessary use of resources.  
• In our gardens, we use many flowering perennial plants that enhance and attract pollinating butterflies and bees.
  We plant natural mosquito repellents in outdoor spaces, such as lemongrass, basil, thyme, lantana, and sage. 
• At the Gallery Cottage (unit 303) we maintain an herb garden for use by our guests.
• 100% of our lighting is LED.
• We do not use disposable containers for hand soap, dish soap, etc., but rather refillable containers. 
• Eco-friendly faucets and toilets reduce water usage without inconvenience.
• Energy Star appliances are used in all cottages.
• Yorktown Cottages maintains its properties with Zero/Low-VOC paints.
• Our walkable location minimizes vehicle usage during guest stays.
